The Beaches Blues Festival begins Sunday at 2 p.m. and runs through midnight, said Germaine, who has booked "more than 10 acts" – including Tight Like That, Nitouk, Back Alley Ringers and Single File to Freedom – that stretch the blues mandate from reggae to funk and rock. Somewhere in the mix he's also planning a fashion show.

The promoter of the non-profit event is asking festivalgoers to add a toonie or a non-perishable food item to their $20 ticket purchase to assist Street Haven at the Crossroads, a women's shelter in the neighbourhood.
